Suzy Faiz

Suzy Faiz (b. 1991, Australia) is an Amsterdam-based artist who works with the mediums of painting and collage to push the possibilities of Abstraction. Using a vocabulary of past painting styles, the historical avant-garde becomes resurrected in her work through a contemporary lens. It offers a democratic reading of abstract, gestural, and figurative elements; loose painterly strokes coincide with geometric and representational forms. True to a Surrealist ethos, her work creates a rupture in the perspective of the viewer, by creating a dialogue between absurd and incongruous images. Her practice can be viewed as an autobiographical collage in which symbols and references intersect.
Faiz trained as an artist at The University of Sydney (2010-17) and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (2014 – 15). Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is held in private collections in Australia, Austria, and the Netherlands.
