Inspired by Constantin Kavafis, God abandons Antony, 1911. The title is from a line in the poem. The painting is a homage to my beloved city Alexandria of Egypt. It also is about memories and leaving one’s native place to go elsewhere but always carrying one’s origins within. The two girls are one and the same but represent different states of mind - nostalgia and nostalgic thoughts respectively. The ship departing or arriving can be both literal and a metaphor for the passage of time/dreams/hopes.
