Inspired by plants and nature, this painting plays with accumulations, overlays, transparencies. It is built with colours and graphics that oppose painted surfaces. Rinceaux, arabesques and interlaces here evoke the ornamental patterns of mural tapestries and carved lintels. On this large canvas, the patterns develop in an explosion of colours. The square, with its perfect symmetry, contains the swirling movement of leaves and brings back the necessary balance between tension and breathing. The edges are painted so that the canvas can be hung without framing. This is nicely suited to the pattern that we can easily imagine extending to infinity. Otherwise, it will perfectly fit in a black and gold shadow box.
