Still Life With Blue Vase And Iranian Bowl

This painting is from real objects set in natural light in the studio. The technique for this painting is the Venetian technique, with lots of layers of glazes and impasto. For me, painting isn’t straight up an imitation of nature, but rather using the subject as an inspiration. I use lightning as a means to bring meditatively, as well as mimicking dramatic theatrical qualities to build up a more legible visual narrative for my audience. In a sense painting for me, is combining both realism and personal expression. The veil of glazes will bring the magic into the painting, that is what I call my poetry.
