This is a plot from the Old Testament. It symbolizes the touch and defenselessness of beauty. Both in the ancient and in the new world. Susanna was a beauty whom the lustful old men spied on while she was swimming. Then they accused her of adultery because their thirst for touching a beautiful body was not satisfied. The future prophet Daniel saved her from shame, interrogating the separately accused witnesses (I think that this was the first in the history of a civil case with a detective investigation).
