In our introductory class, we focus on foundational skills. You'll begin by drawing a subject using pencil and charcoal, developing a strong understanding of proportions, shading, and dimensions. Then based on your interests, skill level, and the number of sessions you book we'll guide you in selecting the perfect drawing subject for your subsequent courses.

What you’ll learn:

Drawing Techniques:

  • How to make your drawing centered and well proportioned on your paper

  • How to choose the best point of view for your subject

  • How to use drawing tools, like pencil, charcoal, shader, ink, watercolor, and pastels

  • How to sketch fast and effective drawings from a real model (person or still life)

  • How to shade to achieve good chiaro and scuro

Meet Your Instructors

Nicolas Prins

After receiving his MA in Painting from LUCA Brussels, Nicolas now teaches and lives in Amsterdam, Netherlands. “Art for me is about being able to convey the drama of someone who has been abandoned and how they can survive in this world. Being a person of colour and mixed heritage, queer, and immigrant, I have no difficulty finding subjects for my paintings. In them, I see myself as a film director composing dreamy narratives from unrelated source materials creating an uncanny and often dramatic scene.”

Lorena Pritchard

With a background in sculpture, drawing, and painting, Lorena finds the playful medium of clay deeply rewarding. She has a passion for sharing its beauty and grounding qualities, emphasizing mindfulness and connection to the earth in the making process. Inspired by her Sicilian heritage and passion for botanical elements, her colorful cups, bowls, and plates are infused with a dreamy, ethereal, and nostalgic quality.
