The myth about Salmakida was outlined by Ovid in the Metamorphoses.
The girl had a charming appearance, combined in her with indestructible laziness. Other nymphs, armed with spears and bows, amuse themselves with hunting; Salmakida valued "indestructible peace" above all else. Bathing in a spring, combing her luxurious hair, tidying her head with flowers, admiring herself in the mirror of the waters - she did not want other activities.
“Why are you ruining your youth in your idleness?” - vying with each other reproached her friends. But they were not successful.
According to later tradition, the spring at Halicarnassus, where this happened, contributed to the effeminacy of those who drink from it.
