The figure depicted in the painting is a metaphor for Venice. The splashes of ochre in the clothes, the face, the feet are an epitome of the fragile palaces of Venice's grand canal. The clothes in which the female figure is wrapped refer to the colors of the Venetian lagoon. The subject of the painting emphasizes the fragility of the ancient city, its vulnerability to the natural forces and at the same time the undivided beauty created by the tandem of the lagoon and architecture. The shape of the figure wrapped in blue cloth and the technique of execution also refers to the images of the Madonna.
