An interpretation of a famous biblical theme “The Madonna in the grotto”. The work is done in techniques and colors inspired by church art (e.g. the works of Andrei Rublev). The canvas is originally coated in black acrylic and over coated with 3 shades of gold, and later treated for an aged effect. In some parts of the canvas you can see cracks in the gold and through them you can see the black base color. The blue figure of the Madonna and the grotto are done in matt gouache, which creates a contrast with the reflective gold background.
