References: my broken wrist in a cast from a bike accident which caused me to finish this series with my left hand; the sign of “a warm handshake in thought” by Vincent van Gogh in his letters to his brother Theo; a quote by Thérèse Schwartze’s teacher, German painter Franz von Lenbach, “But a feminine lack of self-confidence will stand in your way if you do not succeed in overcoming it“; “Le Sablier” (1914) silk embroidery on linen, by Ayda van Rees-Dutilh and a portrait made of her by Mondrian; and my study of the Dutch language.
